Instead of always waiting at the bar for drinks, sometimes drag queens will come around with trays filled with a variety of shots for you to pay right there.
The club still has your average bar things like pool, a variety of seating, and a dance floor. Still, the family atmosphere is much different than you get from a regular bar. I went out an interviewed some local members of the LGBTQ community and asked them some questions about the importance of this club. I asked one of my straight friends why she chooses to go to Vice Versa, and her answer was inspiring. With Vice being so inclusive to anyone, I am able to go somewhere with my friends and just have a good time. I think that Vice is very important to the Appalachian gay community.
This place is an opportunity for gays to have fun and be themselves without worrying about someone yelling at them for doing something someone sees as wrong. Being a gay club that is open to anyone, people like me a straight 21 year-old girl with a boyfriend can go there and make great friends and talk to a lot of different people. I think that the more straight people who go and support these kinds of things, the more cultured, educated, and considerate we can all be.
West Virginia can be conservative in nature. Having a place like Vice Versa for the community to go to can have positive beneficial impacts. The community has a place to meet other people like them and truly be themselves. This is amazing.
